Shelter Information

We provide short term, emergency shelter for adult individuals who are homeless.  Families must access the family shelter programs through the Massachusetts Department of Transitional Assistance.  A map of our locations is available here.

Overnight shelter:

The men's shelter is located at 769 Worthington Street in Springfield.  This shelter is for single men 18 years of age or older.

The women's shelter is located at 755 Worthington Street. It provides overnight shelter for single women 18 or older.

Shower and laundry facilities are available for our shelter guests.

Both men's and women's shelters open for the evening at 5:30 p.m.  Beds are assigned as they become available.  There is usually a waiting list for beds and floor space is limited.  All check-ins must be completed by 8 p.m. unless special arrangements have been made (employer's letter, medical emergency, etc.)  If you do not check in on time, your bed may be given to the next person on the list. Individuals new to shelter should attempt to have a phone interview in advance of their arrival.

Resource Center:

FOH operates a  Resource Center at 755 Worthington Street seven days a week for our clients. There are various programs available weekdays from 8:00 AM through 4:30 PM.  Case Management services are also provided at this location.  Telephone and laundry facilities are available to people staying at our shelters.

Friends of the Homeless must raise the entire operating budget for day shelter.  We need your help to provide meaningful programming.
