WMECO Response Helps Homeless

SPRINGFIELD – When the lights came back on and hundreds of linesmen and women were packing up to finally go home, Western Massachusetts Electric Co. employees thought about one more way to help the community.

Several hundred sets of sheets, blankets and pillows, all purchased to accommodate the extra crews brought in by the utility company to help restore power following October’s damaging snowstorm, were donated to help the homeless.

“A lot of men and women will be warmer this winter thanks to the thoughtfulness and generosity of Western Massachusetts Electric Company,” said Friends of the Homeless executive director William Miller.

“WMECo employees are out in our communities every day and see firsthand the incredible needs that exist. We are pleased the Friends of the Homeless could make such good use of the bedding materials as they help folks get back on their feet,” said Peter Clarke, president and chief operating officer of the utility.
