SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) -- Perhaps more satisfying than a big Thanksgiving meal, is serving others. "A Touch of Garlic" in Springfield opened its doors Thanksgiving day to provide a traditional Thanksgiving meal to those in need.

"We will serve about 150 people during the day. It's a home style dinner at our tables, with our silverware, served table side...a traditional Thanksgiving meal," said Kara Rescia.

A Thanksgiving feast of turkey, stuffing, and all the fixings. "The meal was excellent. This is my second year here with the shelter. It was excellent. They do a great job, plenty, plenty to eat," said Joe Hart.

"It was more like a platter than a meal, there was so much food, it was delicious, incredible," said Cynthia Prince.

Owners Kara Rescia and her husband Joe have been providing this dinner for fourteen years now and say they have no intentions of ending the tradition. This year, Kara says she had so many people in the giving spirit, she actually had to turn away about 30 volunteers. "Fortunately we had about an extra thirty that wanted to volunteer, but we did accept cash donations and several customers donated turkeys," added Rescia.

It's the thoughtfulness and generosity of those who help that make this all possible. "I'm very fortunate, everyone here is very fortunate that they offer this every year," added Hart. "Its wonderful and its making us happy as well, which is a good thing because we need that, its a wonderful day," Prince said.
