Friends of the Homeless, Inc. is the largest emergency shelter and homeless service agency for individuals in Western MA. We are a private, non-profit 501(C)3 organization established over twenty years ago to serve Greater Springfield. FOH recognizes that the need is great not only in our city but around the state. That is why we believe everyone shares an interest in solving the problem of homelessness. We hope that FOH can serve as an example to others, but FOH cannot be the solution for other communities.
FOH provides emergency shelter and services for adult men and women. We also own and operate a day center and a dining room on Worthington Street in Springfield, as well as 78 permanent low income housing units. All FOH shelter and housing is supported by case management aimed at obtaining and maintaining permanent housing. What we’re not interested in is allowing people to be warehoused.
Friends of the Homeless is a community ally in an individual’s struggle for independence. We invite you to join us in using your time, talents and treasure to be part of the solution.
Neither the scope of the homeless situation in Springfield nor the reasons for homelessness is generally understood by many of those in our community. Click here to learn more about the problems facing all of us who understand the need to help those facing homelessness.
We provide emergency shelter for adult men at 769 Worthington Street and for women at 501 Worthington Street.
