Friends of the Homeless, Inc. is in the midst of a 12.5 million dollar construction and renovation project. When it’s completed in fall of 2010, FOH will serve as a regional model to other communities working to end homelessness. The new FOH Resource Center, Housing First rental units and dignified emergency shelter for both men and women will bring solution oriented services to the doorstep of individuals who need them most. The project includes a health and dental clinic, case management aimed at re-housing, supported housing options and the capacity to make needed resources available. FOH hopes to make everything from substance abuse counseling, life skills training and job placement services available on the Worthington Street campus.
Phase I of the project, the new buidling is almost complete. Over the summer, some services will begin operating in the new building and some temporary transitions will be taking place so that FOH can complete the renovation of the existing buildings while still providing emergency shelter and meals to our guests. Phase II includes gutting and replacing the men's shelter as well as the common room kitchens on the upper levels of the Worthington House, where tenants rent single rooms and share ammenities.
We invite you to drive down Worthington Street and see the progress and we look forward to celebrating the completion with our community in early a autumn.
