Springfield – The Charles H. Hall Foundation, Bank of America, Trustee has awarded a $50,000 grant to Friends of the Homeless, Inc. The generous donation will allow FOH to upgrade the heating and cooling system in the existing FOH building at 769 Worthington Street. While the building is slated for renovation this spring, the Charles H. Hall Foundation grant will permit the replacement of aged heating units and the addition of much needed air conditioning in the shelter areas. Friends of the Homeless, Inc. built the building in 1988 to shelter homeless men and provide sixty, single resident housing units on the upper floors.
“The Charles H. Hall Foundation grant adds a significant component toward ensuring that the FOH Worthington House renovation project will provide affordable housing and shelter in a dignified and cost effective manner, “ according to Bill Miller, Executive Director of Friends of the Homeless, Inc.
Friends of the Homeless, Inc. is in the process of building a new resource center and renovating its existing buildings on Worthington Street to create a campus of care. When the project is completed in early fall of 2010, FOH will be able to better serve people who are homeless, tenants who enjoy our low income housing with support services and the greater Springfield community which has entrusted us to shepherd the city’s Ten Year Plan to End Homelessness.
