Yolanda, returned to Friends of the Homeless, Inc. in 2006 to manage the women's shelter and day shelter services. She credits her own recovery and her extensive background in substance abuse counseling with giving her the skills and patience to deal with very complex cases every day. Along with her team of case managers and intake staff, Yolanda helps clients navigate the complex service system, with a goal of removing obstacles and obtaining permanent housing. Case management is offered to every emergency shelter guest and includes everything from physical and mental health referrals, to substance abuse counseling, benefit coordination, educational and vocational direction, housing and employment placement.
