Volunteer Opportunities

Friends of the Homeless shelters are open to all men and women 18 years of age and older.  Unlike some shetlers, we try to offer help to everyone regardless of the reason for their homelessness.  That means that our client population is very diverse and very complicated with issues ranging from mental illness and addiction, to criminal histories.  For that reason, Friends of the Homeless must be responsibly selective in who and how we allow volunteers to help.

If you are 18 years of age or older, you are welcome to apply for a volunteer position by emailing Kathy Tobin, Development Director.  For your safety, no one under the age of 18 can volunteer on the Friends of the Homeless campus or accompany a volunteer.  Instead we suggest that our younger friends coordinate a community based effort to support Friends of the Homeless in our work.  Some recent efforts include:  A Longmeadow teen engaged crafters to knit 1000 hats;  The Longhorns cheerleading squad collected items for our cupboard;  Teenagers from a local school assembled gift bags for the holidays.  We would be glad to help you brainstorm about a volunteer effort and we will arrange for your generosity to be received by a Friends of the Homeless representative on or off our Worthington Street campus.  Call Kathy Tobin to discuss details at 413-732-3069.

Thank you for helping to build a better future with Friends of the Homeless.
